Automation project to synchronize content between GitHub README files and blog platforms such as Google Blogger, Dev.to, and Hashnode. Hashcode test update and example flow to publish and update articles automatically from the repository.
Supported platforms: Google Blogger as the first integration, Dev.to as the second, and Hashnode as the next main integration. Upcoming evaluations for LinkedIn and Medium where API limitations affect automation.
Dev.to setup: create or access the account, go to the extensions section, and generate an API key. Save the key securely in the .env file or in repository secrets. The tool allows updating existing posts; store post identifiers in environment variables or secrets for automated references.
GitHub setup and workflow: generate a Personal Access Token with the repo and workflow or actions:write scopes to be able to update repository variables. Add the token as a secret named VAR_EDIT_TOKEN_GIT or adjust the workflow as convenient. Trigger the workflow in the repository to test the integration.
Rules for extracting tags from the README: tags must be extracted from the end of the README in a comma-separated list format. If no tags are found, the age field in the post should be ignored. Tags must contain only alphanumeric characters without hyphens or special characters. Example of valid tags: javascript, automation, githubactions.
Limitations of other platforms: LinkedIn does not offer public OAuth for posting via API in most cases. Medium greatly restricts the use of its APIs and in many situations forces email login, which prevents full automation. Therefore, the next prioritized implementation is Hashnode or Hashcode depending on the preferred destination.
Hashnode automation: add the necessary secrets in GitHub so that Hashnode works automatically. The post identifier in Hashnode appears in the dashboard URL. Recommended variables to configure as secrets or in the .env file for local tests: HASHNODE_PAT, HASHNODE_PUBLICATION_ID, HASHNODE_PUBLICATION_HOST. For local tests, define these variables in .env.
