PWA: Native app experience from the browser
Progressive Web Apps installable, with offline operation, push notifications and native app performance, accessible from any modern browser.
What is PWA (Progressive Web Apps)?
Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) are web apps that offer capabilities traditionally unique to native apps: they install on the home screen, work offline, send push notifications, load instantly, and provide a seamless experience that the user is indistinguishable from an app downloaded from a store. At Q2BSTUDIO we develop custom PWAs that combine the best of the web and the best of mobile.
The main advantage of a PWA is that it does not require publication in the App Store or Google Play: the user accesses it from the browser and, if desired, installs it with a tap. This eliminates download friction, manual updates, and store fees. Each time the user opens the PWA, they get the latest version without intervention. For businesses that need to reach users quickly without the barriers of stores, PWA is a very efficient alternative.
Development is done with modern web technologies: Next.js, React, Service Workers, Web App Manifest, Cache API, and advanced web APIs. The Service Worker is the technical core of the PWA: it intercepts network requests, manages the cache, enables offline operation, and handles push notifications in the background. We set it up with caching strategies tailored to the content type: cache-first for static assets, network-first for dynamic data, and stale-while-revalidate for content that can be served fast and updated in the background.
Offline operation allows the user to access previously visited content, fill out forms that will be synchronized upon reconnection, and use key functionalities without relying on the connection. The scope of offline depends on the use case: not all functionalities can operate without a network, but the most critical ones for the user are designed to work.
Web push notifications allow you to communicate with the user even when they don't have the PWA open, with the same impact as native app pushes on Android and, with limitations, on iOS. We set up notifications with user consent and targeting by profile or behavior.
PWA performance is measured with Lighthouse and Core Web Vitals: we optimize initial load, Time to Interactive, rendering, and responsiveness to make the experience fast and smooth on any device, including mid-range phones with limited connections.
The PWA is deployed like any web application: on your domain, with mandatory HTTPS, automated CI/CD, and cloud hosting. It doesn't need app distribution infrastructure or per-store version management.
In certain scenarios, the PWA coexists with a native app: the PWA captures users who don't want to download, and the native app offers functionalities that the web does not yet support. We evaluate each case to recommend the most appropriate strategy.
Accessibility is applied by design: correct HTML semantics, proper contrast, keyboard navigation, and screen reader support. An accessible PWA expands the audience and meets increasingly demanded digital inclusion standards.
